Little League Playing Big Time

The granddaughter of Worth County Sheriff Freddie Tompkins and Mrs. Peggy Tompkins will be appearing on ESPN2 tonight along with her Windermere Little League (WLL) softball team as they compete against an undefeated Albuquerque, New Mexico team for the World Series Championship title. Hannah Cain, 12, and her family is nothing short of excited, especially her grandparents who have traveled to be a part of each game played in Portland, Oregon up to the final event.

Hannah, originally from Worth County, is fortunate to be contributing with?teammates?as part of the World Series games. After breaking her arm a few months back, she was released by her doctor only two weeks ago to continue playing ball. Typically playing first base and relief pitcher, she is playing in right field currently.

This is only Hannah?s third year in fast pitch softball, which is incredible to say the least to experience what she and her team are preparing for tonight. WLL earned their spot in tonight?s event after defeating Hawaii Tuesday night, 1 ? 0.

?I just hope they win,? Sheriff Tompkins said Wednesday afternoon. ?If they don?t they have done good to get this far.?

The game is scheduled to start at 10 P.M. eastern time. Tune in to ESPN2 and see if you can spot a few familiar faces during this special sports event broadcast. Good Luck Hannah and Windermere! Photo used with permission

Lady Ram Earning Extra Skill through Travel Ball

Lindsey Toneygay, a freshman at Worth County High School, and her fast pitch softball travel ball team, Synergy, recently returned home from Orlando where they played at the USSSA World Series at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.? Lindsey?s team faced 55 other 14U teams from 22 different states, including two teams from Puerto Rico.? After finishing their pool games as the top seed, Synergy lost their first bracket game.? They continued playing in the loser?s bracket to eventually place 4th.? Synergy led all participating teams in many of the statistics, including the most runs scored, 90, in the 12 games that were played.
